Apartment Owners Association (AOA) Spring Conference Recap

The Apartment Owners Association Spring Power Conference took place at the Marina Village in San Diego and Aloha had the opportunity to attend the event as a sponsor.

8 speakers took the stage to drive messages home to apartment owners in San Diego. Some included asset protection attorneys, tax professionals that specialize in real estate investments, folks that represented landlords during tenant evictions and much more. One of the key takeaways was how state and local rental policies are forcing apartment owners to rethink their strategies as the cost of operations goes up while there is a limit to how much a landlord can increase rents annually. New legislation is being proposed to cap rental increase on rented Single Family Homes, along with Condos. It is a repeal of Costa Hawkins which bans California from enacting extreme rent control measures on landlords.

Aloha aims to offer clients investments designed to reduce tax liability, so Skyler and Derek enjoyed learning about how tax planning in the summer and fall can lead to a potentially more fruitful outcome for clients who find themselves in need of tax reduction strategies. It was clear through the case studies provided during the presentations that working with a knowledgeable, proactive tax professional who understands real estate can mean the difference between a high tax bill and one that is much more digestible.

Not only was the event educational, but it offered the chance to meet some great apartment owners and professional colleagues who will be great resources for Aloha’s clients in the future. From commercial real estate brokers to insurance professionals, from electricians to balcony experts, Skyler and Derek met some great people who have the same collaboration mindset as Aloha.

We’re excited to have a booth at the Long Beach AOA event in August and continue the mission of sharing the Aloha!
